How does BetterBax work?

Rather than being round like your standard earring backs, BetterBax earring backs extend upward to provide just enough leverage against the back of your ear to prevent your earrings from sagging or drooping. Our patented, simple design is extremely effective. Just look at our Before & After photos to see how well BetterBax has worked for some of our customers. We are confident that they’ll work just as well for you.

How do you wear BetterBax?

You wear BetterBax the same way you would wear any other friction earring backs. Just make sure that the heart is facing upward when you put them on.

What are BetterBax made of?

BetterBax are made from surgical grade stainless steel and are coated with a titanium finish.

Are gold-tone BetterBax coated with a titanium finish?

Yes, both silver-tone and gold-tone BetterBax are coated with a titanium finish. Although titanium in its raw form is very similar in color to silver, titanium coatings are available in both silver-tone and gold-tone colors.

Are BetterBax hypoallergenic?

Yes, surgical stainless steel is a hypoallergenic material, however, titanium is extremely biocompatible and hypoallergenic, making BetterBax among the most hypoallergenic earring backs available.

Why aren’t BetterBax made from Sterling Silver?

Friction earring backs are essentially miniature springs. Sterling silver is one of the worst metals for springs, which is why you won’t find any other kinds of springs that are made out of sterling silver. Stainless steel is one of the best materials from which to make a spring. In order to make an earring back that will provide the strongest hold for the longest period of time, it must be made out of stainless steel.

If Stainless Steel is hypoallergenic, why do you need to coat your earring backs with titanium?

While it is true that stainless steel is considered to be hypoallergenic for most people, there are a small percentage of people who can be sensitive to it. Our titanium coating serves two purposes:

  • It dramatically decrease the potential for reactions for the small percentage of people who are sensitive to stainless steel, and
  • It provides an extremely durable and scratch-resistant finish that will last for the lifetime of the product.

How do I know which size BetterBax to use with my earrings?

If you purchased both sizes, first try BetterBax for Thinner Post Earrings. If your earrings fit into the openings, then you’ve got the right size. If the openings are too small, then you know those earrings need BetterBax designed for Standard & Thicker Post Earrings.

If you only purchased BetterBax for Standard & Thicker post earrings, your earrings should properly fit all of your earrings other than your thinner post earrings. To check to make sure your earrings are a good fit, insert the earring post into the BetterBax (without putting it on). Once the post is in the back, try to rock it up and down. If you notice anything more than a slight movement, then your earring backs may be too thin for the BetterBax designed for Standard & Thicker Post Earrings. With both of our sizes, all of your earrings will have a proper fit.

Why do the BetterBax springs seem so tight?

BetterBax springs seem tighter than other earring backs because they are tighter. All springs eventually get looser. The only way to make an earring back that maintains a strong hold for a long period of time is to start with the right material, design, and production techniques, and then manufacture the springs with high tension. Because application of our coating can cause a bit of extra tension prior to initial use, it is recommended that you insert your earring posts into BetterBax a few times before wearing them for the first time. We think you’ll appreciate the strong hold when you notice that you’re no longer losing earrings due to your earring backs getting too loose and falling off.
